11th January 2017

I printed a picture of Elsa, which read, My name is Elsa, my dress is _____, my hair is _____, my eyes are _____, my lips are ______.

They filled in the spaces after they had coloured the picture.

We played a guessing game using flash cards. One child drew what was on the flash card and the other child guessed what it was. They loved this.
4th January 2017

This week they practiced the numbers 1 - 30. They love to draw so they drew a picture of their family and wrote mummy, daddy, sister. Eliènor likes to ask me how to say words in english, and she enjoys writing this on her picture.

We sang a hello song, and another song that we had learnt on Thanksgiving which Eliènor wanted to sing again.

Blanche played with the cars at the end, she loves cranes and Eliènor wrote some more of her book.
It's a book about two princesses (her and her sister)

14th December 2016

They decorated a Christmas picture frame, and wrote in english 'My family'.

We played a role play activity where the children had to pretend to buy groceries from me. So we practiced saying 'hello, how are you?' Could I have a... please. Could I have 3 carrots please. Could I have a..., a ... and a... please.

They really enjoyed this. I had printed toy money which they loved.

Wednesday 7th December

I thought it would be a fun way to learn some new vocabulary by putting parts of a snowman together. The new language is: Snowman, eyes, nose, mouth, hat, tie, scarf, mittens, hat and buttons.

We'll put them into the following sentences:

The Snowman has 5 buttons.
He has a blue scarf (for example).
He likes his hat.
He is wearing mittens.
The tie is orange and yellow (for example).
The snowman is happy.

I could ask questions like, where is his hat? Point to his tie etc. Is he happy or sad?

We will listen to the first three songs in the video below.

The children loved the role play activity so much last week, they'll probably want to do that again, so I'll bring in the fake money I printed last week, and we'll use the toy food that's in the class. It will reinforce the vocabulary, 'I would like a.... please'. They'll also practise greeting each other, as they'll have to say hello to the shop owner, me :)
Wednesday 30th November

Only three more classes before the Chrstmas holidays. I thought we'd start early and make a decoration for their Christmas tree at home.  From this activity the children will learn the vocabulary 'Christmas', 'Christmas tree', 'decoration', and 'present'.

To get into the Christmas mood here's a Peppa Pig Christmas video:
https://youtu.be/Ez6JMzhMmUY

Colour 2 christmas trees and slot them together to make a 3d tree decoration.
Stick real pins from the pine tree and decorate with whatever we can find.
Bring tin foil for mini balls.

We could start learning some Christmas songs like, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and
Jingle Bells.
Talk about the christmas tree and how it stays green all year unless it's cut down.

We're going to play a role play activity where we have a buy food for Christmas. I printed toy money and we will use the toy food. Target language is I would like a.... please. Here you go. They already know thank you.

I might say, I would like a dog for Christmas, to see if they understood. Then I might ask them what to they want for Christmas.

If this role play activity goes well I will ask them to bring in three dolls next week for another role play activity.

Wednesday 23rd November

The children learned about Thanksgiving and the story behind it. I explained using the white board by drawing pictures and writing the new vocabulary beside the pictures.

We sang thanksgiving songs and watched 2 videos that explain the story.

I prepared little branches for the children to make their own thank you tree. They painted autumn coloured leaves, cut them out and wrote one word that they were thankful for on the back of each leaf. They stuck their leaves on the tree.

I also prepared a page with a picture of a plate, a knife and a fork. The children drew on the plate all the foods that people eat for thanksgiving.

Wednesday 16th November

Let's talk about the weather... sunny, rainy, snowy and windy.

Ask if today is rainy and do the action to show rain.
Is it snowy?
Is it sunny?
Is it windy?
Hold up flash cards and ask the children to repeat after me.
Ask the children to make a wind sound and then say 'it's windy'.
Point outside and hold up the sunny card (as it's probably sunny) say Today is sunny, and get them to repeat.
I have a simple weather worksheet where they need to stick the right picture in the right box where it says for example, 'It's rainy'.
We're going to sing the song 'It's raining, it's pouring...' https://youtu.be/avurCRJiUj0
It's raining, It's pouring,
the old man is snoring,
He went to bed and bumped his head
And couldn't get up in the morning.

Another song - 'Rain rain go Away'. https://youtu.be/jpOlczbIWUY
Rain, rain - go away,
Come again another day
DADDY wants to play
Rain, rain go away

Rain, rain - go away,
Come again another day
MOMMY wants to play
Rain, rain, go away

Rain, rain - go away,
Come again another day
BROTHER wants to play
Rain, rain - go away

Rain, rain - go away,
Come again another day
SISTER wants to play
Rain, rain - go away

Rain, rain, go away,
Come again another day
BABY wants to play
Rain, rain - go away

Granny, granda...

Continue one more page of our princess story.

Extra songs to sing to reinforce what we learned last week.
Row row row your boat...
Drive drive drive your car gently down the road...
